Cleantech Research and Academia
Advancing cleantech and renewable energy research is an important part of the regional development strategy.
Such research could recruit funding and young researchers looking for new challenges. There are six research institutions as well as three academic institutions in the Eilot & Eilat regions.
Here is a short introduction to each of these local establishments and their work in renewable energy.
Southern Arava Agricultural R&D
Southern Arava R&D (SA R&D) hosts various scientific activities including soil and water sciences, post harvest, horticulture, flowers and ornamental plants, vegetables, plant protection and agrotechnology.
The soil, water and plant testing lab serves the SA R&D researchers and together with extension officers of the Ministry of Agriculture, provides comprehensive support for the region’s farmers, landscapers and gardeners.
Dead Sea and Arava Science Center
To conduct applied research based on the region’s relative advantages, within the context of sustainable development.
To be a center for cross-border scientific cooperation.
To improve scientific literacy in the local adult and youth populations.
To be a focal point for mapping, developing, and spreading knowledge regarding issues of importance to the Dead Sea and Arava through conferences, courses, publications, and more.
To promote in the growth of the scientific community in the region
The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies
The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies is the premier environmental studies and research program in the Middle East. Accredited through Ben-Gurion University, the Arava Institute houses academic programs, research centers, and international cooperation initiatives focusing on a range of environmental concerns and challenges.
With a student body comprised of Jordanians, Palestinians, Israelis, and students from around the world, the Arava Institute offers students an exceptional opportunity to learn from leading professionals while forming friendships and developing skills that enable them to lead the region and the world in solving today’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Here, the idea that nature knows no political borders is more than a belief. It is a fact, a curriculum, and a way of life.
Capital Nature is a business incubator for renewable energy which invests in avenues for applicable cleantech research.
The Eilat campus of Ben-Gurion University
Bachelors and Masters degrees in various fields.
The Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Institute
The Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Institute works on research in the fields of Marine biology and oceanography.
We envision a large center for professional laboratories which would have the ability to lead research breakthroughs, international cooperation on research, and mainly, would be a magnet for researchers from Israel and from around the world who would come to work and live in Hevel Eilot – the Sun Valley for Renewable Energy.
