אקולוגיה וסביבה, ספטמבר 2019 לפני פחות משנה פרסמה רשות החשמל את החלטתה באשר להסדרת פעילותם של מתקני ייצור בגז טבעי המחוברים לרשת חלוקת החשמל, שמטרתה לעודד את ביזור משק החשמל על–ידי הקמת מתקנים קטנים לייצור חשמל. לפי תחזית רשות החשמל, בשנת 2020 ייצור משולב של חשמל וחום עשוי להגיע ל– 18% מתפוקת משק החשמל.
