Australia increases its solar energy activity

Two new large scale solar PV farms have been established in New South Wales thanks to funding from the state government and ARENA (Australian Renewable Energy Agency).

The solar photovoltaic projects are expected to produce around 360,00MW hours of electricity every year which is enough to power more than 50,000 homes in the region. They include the construction of a 102MW solar power plant in Nygnan and 53MW solar plant in Broken Hill.

They exemplify how far the Australian solar PV  industry has come in such a short time, with one of the plants in Nyngan, being the largest plant in the Southern Hemisphere. Other benefits of the two plants include the creation of 450 construction jobs in the area.

Construction of the plants is expected to begin in the first half of 2014.
